FIAF Award: Amitabh Bachchan to be conferred with the Prestigious Award by Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan will soon be honored with the prestigious FIAF award for his dedication and contribution to the preservation of the world’s film heritage. In a virtual ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on March 19, the legendary actor will receive the award from iconic filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan.
The FIAF affiliate Film Heritage Foundation was founded by filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur. Amitabh Bachchan will be the first Indian superstar to receive this global award. Martin Scorsese (2001), Ingmar Bergman (2003) and Christopher Nolan (2017), are some of the recipients of this honor in the past.
Speaking about the recognition, he says that “I am greatly privileged to accept this award for a cause that I am extremely committed to. When I became the ambassador of the Film Heritage Foundation in 2015, I appreciated the extent of the neglect and colossal loss of our precious film heritage and how we continue to lose more of our legacy every day. Identifying the urgency of the situation, I have been working closely with them to do everything in our power to save our films and build a movement for film preservation in our part of the world. We must fortify the idea that film archiving is as necessary as filmmaking, and I do hope that we are able to garner additional support for this cause from my colleagues in the film industry and the government, to facilitate us to realize our dream for building a centre that will preserve and showcase our magnificent film heritage.”
Martin Scorsese adds, “Safeguarding cinema is truly a global cause and Amitabh Bachchan’s encouragement for preserving India’s film legacy has been incomparable.
Dungarpur says, “Our establishment has been working steadily to protect our endangered film legacy. We have been lucky enough to appreciate the support of Amitabh Bachchan, who did great things in saving our film legacy.”
