Prachi Desai: Industry Replaced Me When I Refused Playing Sexy Characters Onscreen
Beautiful & versatile actress Prachi Desai has become a household name by making her appearance in the popular TV show “Kasamh Se”. Her transition to the big screen was also successful when she worked brilliantly in the movie Rock On, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai & Bol Bachchan.
After a long time the actress is back with her exciting & enthusiastic roles in the mixed bag of projectsfor theatrical & OTT release. Talking about her professional career that she has went through, the actress said, “There was a time when I was replaced in films because I did not agree to enact certain scenes. She further added that none of the filmmakers had the ‘decency’ to inform about throwing me out. I could never wrap my head around being told that I am not ‘hot enough’ and that I needed to do more ‘sexy songs’.
Adding on to this she told, “In the film business, people want you to be what only a certain man wants you to be. You are always looked at from a male gaze. And I was always told like, ‘You are not hot enough. You need to be hot. You are too young too cute. I think you need to do a sexy shoot. All you need to do a sexy song’. And I didn’t understand that. I was like, ‘But for whom should I do these sexy shoots. For whom should I do these sexy songs?’ Don’t you see what I am doing in my films? That I can act.”
She said the industry is sometimes very unfair. She also revealed that many times she & her manager got the news of being replaced in the film through social media post of other people. She emphasizes that the filmmakers would never ever call to inform her that she has been replaced by other actress. “Waise toh bade mard bante hain (They say they’re honorable men) but when it comes to working they are not even man enough to send you a text or a call,” she said.
