The Soulful Tracks of Shreya Ghoshal

Suppose music is the strongest form of magic. In that case, Shreya Ghoshal is undoubtedly one of the greatest enchantresses in the Indian music industry. As the unreckoned voice turns 38, we reminisce about her remarkable career and some of her best hits delivered over the years.

Shreya has always been passionate about singing since the tender age of four. She started her formal training in Hindustani classical music at six. She won the sensational television reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa at sixteen. Then, she never had to look back.

She hails from a humble Bengali family from Murshidabad, West Bengal. Her father is an electrical engineer, while her mother is a literature post-graduate. She has a younger brother and grew up in the atomic capital of India, Rawatbhata, Rajasthan, and then later in Mumbai, when her father got transferred to Bhabha Atomic Research Center. A protege of Tanpura, Shreya Ghoshal started her musical journey with Bengali music. Her early mentor was Late Kalyanji Bhai and then Late Mukta Bhide.

"Ganraj Rangi Nachato" , a cover of one of Lata Mangeshkar's Marathi songs, was Shreya's first recorded song. However, her first studio album came out later in 1998 with the song Bendhecchi Beena and 14 other tracks. She had been in the realm of music even before her mighty win in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. After that, she became a sensation, and opportunities knocked on her door like never before.

Back when she participated in the 75th children's special episode of the reality singing show, she caught the attention of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's mother. Later, when Bhansali heard her, he was dumbstruck and found her melancholic voice perfect for the character of Paro from his movie Devdas (2002). Then, music director Ismail Darbar made her the voice of Paro, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the film. Ghosal voiced five outstanding tracks alongside well-established singers like Kavita Krishnamurthy, Udit Narayan, Vinod Rathod, K.K., and Jaspinder Narula. She grabbed her first Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for Dola re Dola, the National Film Award for Bairi Piya, and the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent.

She is one of the most versatile singers in the industry and loves to experiment with her projects. She has rendered her voice to several semi-classical pieces which you must add to your playlist for Shreya Ghoshal Karaoke Songs. She broke the stereotype of the sweet and innocent voice with seductive numbers like "Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai" and "Chalo Tumko Lekar Chale" for the film Jism, which gave her another Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Since then, Shreya has world with all the top music directors of contemporary times like Anu Mallik, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Nikhil-Vinay, Nadeem-Shravan, Rajesh Roshan, and many more. Something unreal about her voice blends perfectly, especially with Sonu Nigam. The duo has delivered hits like "Chann Chann" from Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., "Pyaar Bhara Geet" from L.O.C.: Kargil "Dil Dooba" and "Youn Hi Tum Mujhse" from the movie Khakee. As per music critics back then, Shreya's voice suited Aishwarya best, and soon it was recognized to fit all the then line-up of actresses well.

Among her accomplishments lies four National Film Awards, four Kerala State Film Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, seven Filmfare Awards, and ten Filmfare Awards South. She has also been honored by the selected members of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, five times in the Forbes list of the top 100 celebrities from India, and becoming the first Indian singer to have her wax figure displayed in the Indian wing of Madame Tussauds Museum, Delhi.

Her journey is inspiring for every budding artist as she continues to rule hearts with her angelic voice to date. Let us now look at her best songs that must become part of your karaoke playlist.
