It is a great time for the ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam as he has made his dream historical film 'Ponniyin Selvan' based on the novel of the same title written by Kalki. The movie however took long time to make. Mani Ratnam made the film in two parts and the first part is scheduled to release on September 30. It is not known to many, Mani Ratnam decided to start 'Ponniyin Selvan' in the early 1990s with Kamal Haasan, and veteran actress Rekha for the dual role characters Nandini and her mother Mandakini Devi. However, the things didn’t work well and it took two decades for the director to plan the film in 2011.
Mani Ratnam this time chose Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the dual role characters Nandini and her mother Mandakini Devi in 'Ponniyin Selvan'. The actress has completed her portions in the film and her character as Nandini, the queen of Pazhuvoor, is going to be the most important one in the film as it takes the story forward.
In addition, Mahesh Babu, Vijay, Suriya, Vijay Sethupathi, Silambarasan, Amala Paul, Keerthy Suresh, Arya, and Anushka Shetty are the stars who missed being part of 'Ponniyin Selvan' due to various reasons. The historical film also has Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, R Parthiban, Vikram Prabhu, Prabhu, and Aishwarya Lekshmi in important roles and the music is given by A.R. Rahman.
